| Il Comando USAFE (US Air
Forces in Europe & Air Forces Africa) di
Ramstein AB, Germania, ha organizzato per la prima volta
l’esercitazione multinazionale Astral Knight 2019 che si è svolta nei
giorni tra il 3 e 6 giugno. L’evento, che ha avuto come fulcro principale l’Aeroporto “Pagliano e Gori” di Aviano, o Aviano Air Base nella dizione USAF ed internazionale, come sede del 31st Fighter Wing con gli F-16C/D e gli elicotteri combat SAR HH-60G Pave Hawk (non partecipanti all’esercitazione), ha coinvolto le vicine Slovenia, Croazia e naturalmente l’Italia. Lo IADS/Integrated Air and Missile Defence, è stato l’obiettivo primario dell’esercitazione incentrato al coordinamento, miglioramento ed integrazioni dei vari assetti multinazionali : terrestri, navali ed aerei, nella condotta di azioni difensive ed offensive contro le possibili azioni aeree e missilistiche del nemico. Lo scenario addestrativo previsto, ha prodotto numerose missioni di volo congiunte ma anche simulazioni assistite da computer. Il 606thACS/Air Control Squadron, un posto di commando e controllo mobile, parte del 31stFW dal 1°novembre 2016, ha preso posizione con uno dei suoi radar AN/TPS-75 nei pressi di un piccolo aeroporto civile nella periferia di Pola (Pula) in Croazia, unito a personale del 123rd ACS dell’Ohio Air National Guard. Il 10thArmy Air and Missile Defense Command di Kaiserlautern, Germania, ha inviato una batteria di missili antiaerei MIM104F Patriot PAC-3 del 5th Battalion, 7th Air Defense Artillery Regiment di Baumholder, a schierarsi nei pressi del porto di Capodistria (Koper) in Slovenia. Il supporto navale nel Mar Adriatico, era fornito da un cacciatorpediniere dell’US Navy classe Arleigh Burke, dotato del sistema anti-missili balistici Aegis, incentrato sul missile Standard in varie configurazioni. Gli
assetti aerei impiegati nell’esercitazione sono stati : gli F-35A
Lightning II del 388th Fighter Wing di Hill AFB, Utah e coadiuvati da
equipaggi del 419th Fighter Wing dell’Air Force Reserve Command,
tutti rispiegati
nella
base di Aviano dopo la metà del mese di Maggio
Gli F-35A, hanno operato assieme ai locali F-16C/D del 510th Fighter Squadron “Buzzards” e 555th FS “Triple Nickel”. Seppur non sempre visibile, determinante è stato il supporto fornito dai tankers che in ben 5 esemplari hanno orbitato contemporaneamente in un’area compresa tra la base di Aviano ed il nord Friuli e nella parte nord del Mare Adriatico. Si
è trattato : dei KC-135R Stratotanker del 100th Air Refueling Wing di
RAF Mildenhall, Regno Unito, KC-10A Extender del 514thAir Mobility
Wing, AFRC, di JB McGuire, New Jersey, e KC-767A del 8°Gruppo/14°Stormo
di Pratica di Mare.
Operanti da Istrana invece, gli F-2000A Typhoon di tutti gli Stormi dell' Aeronautica Militare : 4°, 36° e 37°, mentre si sono aggiunti ai Lightning II statunitensi, quelli del 13°Gruppo/32°Stormo provenienti direttamente da Amendola. Piuttosto limitato l’impiego dei MiG-21bisD della Eskadrila Borbenih Aviona di Zagabria-Pleso, dell’aviazione croata, visto l’esiguo numero di velivoli ancora efficienti. Il 4 giugno, si sono incontrati sull’Aeroporto di Aviano : il Lt.Gen. Steven Basham Vice-Comandante dell’USAF e Air Forces Africa, il Gen. di Divisione Aerea Silvano Frigerio comandante delle Forze da Combattimento, in rappresentanza dell’Aeronautica Militare, il Brig.Gen. Mato Mikić comandante della Hrvatsko Ratno Zrakoplovstvo i Protuzračna Obrana (Forza Aerea e Difesa Aerea della Croazia) e la Maj.Gen. Alenka Ermenc Capo di Stato Maggiore della Slovekska Vojska, le forze armate slovene (foto). Nell’occasione, un B-52H Stratofortress del 20th Bomb Squadron / 2nd Bomb Wing, dopo alcune foto di rito sull’Adriatico in formazione con F-16C, F-35A italiani e statunitensi, ha effettuato un passaggio sulla base prima di rientrare a Barksdale AFB, Louisiana, per una missione durata ben 24 ore . The
USAFE (US Air Forces in Europe & Air Forces Africa) HQ of
Ramstein AB, Germany, organized for the first time the multinational
exercise Astral Knight 2019 which took place between 3 and 6 June. The event, which had as its main hub the “Pagliano e Gori” Airport of Aviano, or Aviano Air Base in the USAF and international diction, being the seat of the 31st Fighter Wing with the F-16C/D and the SAR HH-60G Pave Hawk combat helicopters (not participating in the exercise), involved neighboring Slovenia, Croatia and of course Italy. The IADS / Integrated Air and Missile Defense, was the primary objective of the exercise focused on the coordination, improvement and integration of the various multinational assets: land, sea and air, in the conduct of defensive and offensive actions against possible air and missile actions of the enemy. The planned training scenario has produced numerous joint flight missions but also computer-aided simulations. The 606th ACS / Air Control Squadron, a mobile command and control post, part of the 31st FW from 1st November 2016, took a position with one of its AN / TPS-75 radars near a small civilian airport on the outskirts of Pula (Pula ) in Croatia, together with staff of the 123rd ACS of the Ohio Air National Guard. The 10th Army Air and Missile Defense Command of Kaiserlautern, Germany, sent a battery of anti-aircraft missiles MIM104F Patriot PAC-3 of the 5th Battalion, 7th Air Defense Artillery Regiment of Baumholder, to siding near the port of Koper (Koper) in Slovenia. Naval support in the Adriatic Sea was provided by a US Navy class Arleigh Burke destroyer, equipped with the Aegis anti-ballistic missile system, focused on the Standard missile in various configurations. The aerial assets employed in the exercise were: the F-35A Lightning II of the 388th Fighter Wing of Hill AFB, Utah, and assisted by crews of the 419th Fighter Wing of the Air Force Reserve Command site in the same base; all deployed in the Aviano base after the middle of May. The F-35As worked together with the F-16C/D of the 510th Fighter Squadron "Buzzards" and 555th FS "Triple Nickel". Although not always visible, the support provided by the tankers was decisive. In as many as 5 aircraft orbited simultaneously in an area between the base of Aviano and northern Friuli and in the northern part of the Adriatic Sea. It was: the KC-135R Stratotanker of the 100th Air Refueling Wing by RAF Mildenhall, UK, KC-10A Extender of the 514th Air Mobility Wing, AFRC, by JB McGuire, New Jersey, and KC-767A of the 8th Group / 14th Wing of Pratica di Mare.
