col suo velivolote il mio (e     L'annuale raduno della HAG (Historical Aircraft Group) ha visto nel campo e nel cielo di Montagnana la presenza e l'esibizione di moltissimi velivoli compresa, per la prima volta in Italia, la Pattuglia Acrobatica Belga "Red Devils" su SF-260. 

  Esibizioni in volo a parte, uno dei momenti più emozionanti al “Fly Party 2015”,  è stato l’incontro di Rick Shoup con il “Mekong Mauler” o, meglio, con una sua “reincarnazione” !

   Ad Andrea Rossetto, Presidente HAG, il merito, di aver restaurato un Cessna Model 305C (ex Aero Club d’Italia), o meglio un O-1E Bird Dog che ancor prima, servì nell’ALE (Aviazione Leggera Esercito) per poco meno di un trentennio.

   Il velivolo in questione, c/n 305M-0033 e s/n 61-2987, costruito nel 1962, fu parte di un lotto di 44 O-1E (ex L-19E dalla fine di settembre 1962) consegnati all’allora ALE dell’Esercito Italiano, attraverso il MDAP (Mutual Defense Assistance Program).

   Entrato in servizio nel 1963 con la MM61-2987 e codice EI-20, venne assegnato al RAL (Reparto Aviazione Leggera) della Divisione Corazzata “Centauro” di base a Vercelli. Successivamente, servì presso altri reparti sino all’accantonamento presso il 2° RRALE di Bologna-Borgo Panigale nell’autunno del 1989. Dopo una revisione, “demilitarizzazione” e con il montaggio del dispositivo per il traino alianti, presso la “OMA” di Foligno, venne registrato I-EIAI in data 23.03.94 in carico all’Ae.C.I.

   Dopo la dismissione, Andrea lo ha acquisito con l’intento di riportarlo nuovamente in condizioni di volo ed ha deciso di restaurarlo nelle sembianze di un  O-1G (ex O-1A) che servì in Viet Nam a Vinh Long con la 199th RAC (Reconnaissance Airplane Company) “Swamp Foxes” nella seconda metà degli anni ’60.

   In particolare, dopo esser entrato in stretto contatto con uno dei piloti che servì in quel reparto : l’allora WO 1 Rick Shoup (WO = Warrant Officer, un grado simile a maresciallo), ha iniziato un lungo lavoro di ripristino di tutti gli impianti principali e ricreato con cura maniacale per i dettagli, l’esemplare “0-11952” (51-11952) “Mekong Mauler”.

  Abbiamo potuto ammirare il “Mekong Mauler” ed il commovente incontro di Shoup, venuto appositamente dagli USA,  col ‘suo’ velivolo.

  Flying exibitions  apart, one of the most exciting times at "Fly Party 2015", was the meeting between Rick Shoup and "Mekong Mauler" or, better, with his "reincarnation"!

  Andrea Rossetto, HAG President, have the merit of  restoring a Cessna Model 305C (former Aero Club of Italy), or rather an O-1E Bird Dog that even before that, has served  with ALE (Light Aviation Army) for just under three decades.

  The aircraft in question, c / n 305M-0033 s / n 61-2987, built in 1962, was part of a batch of 44 O-1E (formerly L-19E from the end of September 1962) handed over to the ALE of Italian Army, through the MDAP (Mutual Defense Assistance Program).

  She entered service in 1963 with military serial MM61-2987 and coded EI-20, was assigned to the RAL (Light Aviation Unit) of the Armored Division "Centauro" based in Vercelli. Subsequently, she served at other units until the provision at the 2nd RRALE at Bologna-Borgo Panigale in the fall of 1989.  After a revision, "demilitarization" and with the installation of the device for towing gliders, at the "OMA" of Foligno, was registered I-EIAI on 3/23/94 on charge at Ae.C.I.  (Italian Aero Club)

  After the disposal, Andrea acquired the plane with the intent to bring she back in flying condition and decided to restore she in the shape of an O-1G (former O-1A) who served in Viet Nam at Vinh Long with the 199th RAC ( Reconnaissance Airplane Company) "Swamp Foxes" in the second half of the 60s.

In particular, he first entered into close contact with one of the pilots who served in that department: the then WO 1 Rick Shoup (WO = Warrant Officer ), he began a long process of restoration  and recreated with painstaking attention to details, the exemplary "0-11952" (51-11952) "Mekong Mauler".

  We could see the "Mekong Mauler" and the touching  meeting of Shoup, who came specially from the USA, with 'his' aircraft.
